Fame, Fear, and Suicide

Suicide is defined in the Webster’s dictionary as “the act or an instance of taking one’s own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of desecration and of sound mind.” Celebrity is a state of fame, being renowned. These two have coincided throughout history countless times, yet stigma about mental health and the lack of awareness allows for a repetitious pattern. Society places people in a higher regard, forgetting their emotional existence. This series sets to explore the tragic ending of the selected individuals, and present them while stripping away their status. By using wooden figures and raw materials, the viewer is able to see the human in their final moments. Some may even be able to recognize the celebrity with reference to their death.

Fame, Fear, and Suicide was created in 2014.
